We all like to pillory SCOTUS. I know I do. We've had SCOTUS decide that slaves were still slaves, even in free states. We've had SCOTUS decide that institutional segregation is constitutional. We've had subsequent SCOTUS decided against those findings. To some extent, rulings have to recognize current politics. At the very least, cases are largely brought based on current politics.

I will always support the responsibility of ANY court to protect individual citizens and small groups from the power of government. After all, government is just people, a minority at that, and prosecutors are a tiny minority of that minority. The Supreme Court can have no greater mission than to protect all of us from all of them.
